FALL RIVER —

That sheet of pond ice may look good enough to skate on, but looks can be deceiving. That’s why dozen of members of the Fall River Fire Department took part in a two-hour ice rescue training session Monday on North Watuppa Pond to prepare themselves for when someone gets a little too adventurous on the ice and falls through.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency recently issued a number of ice safety precautions out of concerns for the false sense of security that comes with a consistent cold front making people think the ice is safer than it is and the accidents that occur around this time of year when people feel it’s been cold long enough to fully freeze the ice.
